Food + Chef Magazine Writers’ Guidelines
Who we are:
Food + Chef is a monthly iPad/iPhone magazine dedicated to providing high quality articles, videos, and photos to entertain, teach, and inform our readers. In most cases only original content will be accepted and it must be of the highest quality. Occasionally we will accept previously published material, but it will vary case by case. Contact us with questions regarding previously published material.
Ownership:
We may publish your content in Food + Chef Magazine and possibly on our website and social media sites. You own the rights to your content and you may publish it on your own blog, website, book, or other medium that you own. We ask that you kindly adhere to the following guidelines:
- Wait 10 days after your work is published in Food + Chef to publish elsewhere.
- Not required, but we would appreciate a link to the magazine when published elsewhere.
- Do not sell, or giveaway, this content to any other magazine, blog, website, or other properties
Author Resource Box:
We want you and your content to get the proper attention you deserve. If you would like, please include a short “About the Author” with your article submission. Also, include a profile photo and your social media and blog links that you would like to link to in the magazine. See the magazine for examples.

Please look at Food + Chef and other food magazines for examples of content and style, but I’m looking for your true style to come through in the writing. Boring is the last thing we want because of restrictions put on you.
Article Length:
It really depends on the topic. 150-300 words for a quick informational piece to be used along with a similar article topic. 300-600 words for a more involved topic and 600-1000 for an in-depth article hitting on many points. We are looking for themed feature sections of the magazine to be written as well. If the article is informational it should include at least one sidebar including resource information, common applications, helpful tips, etc… Information in your article must be reliable and documented if needed.
Payment:
We pay $.05 per word and as mentioned above will include an authors resource box and you own the content. For feature articles, Chef interviews, and on location type articles, payment will be $.10 per word and will usually only be offered for writers that we know create great content and have written for Food + Chef previously. Payment will be sent once article is submitted and approved.
Submission:
Spell-checked Article/s must be submitted by the 15th of each month to be included in the next month’s issue. Please send your article, author resource box, and images to include in your article via DropBox. Please send only images that you have permission to use. If a photographer needs to be credited, please include photographers name and links on a separate PDF and put in aSub-Folder called “Credits”. Share folder via DropBox to Food + Chef editor Kevin Schmidt at foodpluschef@gmail.com.
Submission process via dropbox:
- Create a PDF document with the title of the article as the name of the document. Type the title of the article and your name below the title of the document.
- Create a Folder with that same article name
- Create a Sub-Folder named “Images”
- Create a Sub-Folder named “Authors Resource Box”
- Put your PDF article in the Article Name Folder.
- Put the article images in the “Images” Sub-Folder. Also, ** If Needed** create a PDF called “Credits” and type the proper credit and image name to be credited and put this doc in the “Images” Sub-Folder as well.
- Put your “About the Author” PDF AND separate profile picture in the “Authors Resource Box” Folder

PLEASE NOTE:
- All the articles MUST be proof read and spell checked before it can be added to the magazine.
- Once your article is submitted please DO NOT change any articles in the Dropbox without proper notice as this will be overlooked.
- Please only add the images that you want to be included in the articles.
- All images must be at least 500px in width for best quality. Please check.
- Email notifications can be sent to inform us of the additional information in the Dropbox.
- Following the instructions above will ensure a smooth work flow for all who work on the magazine.
